I think being an expat is hard no matter where you move to. I have to watch what I say because I think I may be more blunt then the average Brit. I find it hard to take the mick out of someone, we dont do that in America, but I find people seem to get offended if I say what I am thinking... even if I would think its pretty blase. Of course I live in a very small town and that may have something to do with it.

My husband would love to move to the states. We probably will in the future.

I'm a Brit living in America, and I generally agree with you. I was glad to get out of Britain, and I love being in America and being part of the American culture.

The only bits of the British culture I miss are some of the more interesting things they do on TV - especially art, science and nature. I find on American TV they only tend to do a science show if it's about some catastrophic end-of-the-world scenario!

And actually, I miss the conversation. I guess when you grow up with a certain way of talking, you start to miss it. Barbed comments, sarcasm, arguments - I find myself almost bititng my lip trying not to keep doing this stuff, but I miss it.

But generally I agree with you - there's more diverse culture in America than pretty much anywhere, I would imagine.

I SO dont get UK fridges. Every day we spent with only our small fridge was a nightmare. We eventually gave in and got a "large" fridge (HA!) for our utility / sun room. I just don't do warm coke :P

This Christmas we have a side-by-side fridge (in the US) and it was filled to the brim. I don't think our 16 lb turkey would have even fit in our small fridge in the UK. Our pantry is stuffed too. It was food-o-rama this year. I have no idea how we could have pulled this year's dinner off with a basic UK fridge. I totally sympathize!

Glad your Christmas was a good one, despite the fridge! :) Happy holidays and happy new year!

You know, I never thought of an ice chest. Probably because we have no place to keep that either. I hate these tiny houses.
